Combine the words 'tropical' and 'collaboration' and you get 'Tropication'. It was coined as a result of our desire to promote friendly exchanges and integration of the tropical culture into our sanshin designs.

Through the use of images on the skin and doumaki, the introduction of new materials, the choice of neck and karakui, each sanshin in the Tropication line expresses the Asoviva resort concept. We are always exploring new design ideas for the sanshin, and will regularly announce new additions to our line up(the latest addition being the popular K.K.capri model).

The snakeskin sanshin gives a strong impression as a traditional Okinawan instrument. In order to differentiate our sanshin from traditional Ryukyuan designs, we created original designs inspired by our love for the island cultures of the world (Okinawa being one of them!). The tropical colors, island motifs, and even little Kijimuna, place the sanshin in a broader category of music.

The sanshin has a sound that resonates with traditional and non-traditional musicians alike.

Traditional music is deeply rooted with the Okinawan people, and musicians use a bachi for strong single note playing. However, with only three strings, the sanshin is easier to play than the guitar or ukelele, and can be strummed and picked in any style you wish. The challenge for Asoviva - change peoples views of the sanshin, and encourage them to play in as many styles of music as possible.
